The Musikand courses are intended for children aged 4 to 12 (nursery and primary school children) who want to learn the keyboard. The training is received through:

musical games
listening to relevant pieces of classical music
improvisations
the use of rhythmical instruments (Carl Orff’s percussions)
familiarisation with musical instruments from the symphony orchestra
learning of solfeggio

Lessons are carried out in small groups of up to 6 pupils. The teacher gives explanations, according to the needs of children, in Luxembourgish, French, English and Croatian.

Concept

Each child has a keyboard with a range of 5 octaves. The instrument allows the child:

In the first phase

To become familiar with the keyboard, with equal emphasis on the right hand and the left. The child also acquires the essentials necessary for the continuation of education on the classical piano, if this is desired.

In the second phase

To learn to play the keyboard, using the different possibilities of the instrument. The children can learn to play short melodies with their right hand, at the same time playing chords and rhythmic accompaniment with their left hand. Owing to the rich musical potential of the keyboard, the child establishes his or her first contact with the instrument, and also attains great pleasure in playing.

Characteristics

Although the course offers strict instruction in the essentials of classical music, its pedagogical approach is innovative and playful. Unlike conventional musical courses which, unfortunately, can put off some children, the playing of an instrument in a group is extremely motivating. Apart from being more relaxed while playing, the pupil feels less intimidated with solfeggio, since they can learn this as they play the instrument.

Since the child encounters large families of orchestral instruments in the course of the year, they will gain a good insight into different musical paths that they can follow. Therefore, even if the child does not want to play the keyboard or piano any more, they will acquire the musical education necessary for studying another instrument of their own choice.
